The back end is probably being run by the RIAA and MPAA now, ready to catch all of you evil scum sucking, file swapping pirates of terrorism and doom. Or whatever their last claim was.
Its my opinion that what has hurt them so much is that they have not adapted to the times. Change is scary, i know, but our world is going through a digital revolution where everyone wants it easier, better, faster, and cheaper. If you are not competing in atleast 2 of those categories, its only a matter of time before ya sink to the bottom.
Hell, with the cost of gas nowdays its often 30-40% cheaper to buy your music online rather than it is to drive to the store and pick up a new CD for $17.99, and waste an hour of your time and a gallon of gas ontop of that. Saves you the time of having to rip all of your music yourself. Converting them to more open and acceptable formats would be a pain.. beats cd-swapping though.
