Once we get hella body armor and huge ass phaser swords or lightsabers or some shit, melee will be back. Bullets will be like arrows in the world of tomorrow!

Arrows have not become any less effective, unless you count the skill and strength in which is required to loose one, which is mostly negated by the modern compound bow. People still leak the red stuff when struck by one. They are also kinda stealthy when you dont want one of those big bang sticks to make every cop in the world aware of your location.
Bows are neat.. i enjoy watching (non compound shooters) target practice with em. But then again im the kind of person that likes watching pool too. Meh.
God I want the new gun that they made I saw on Futureweapons last night... It's almost exactly like an m4 (comes with both the good and the bad, I suppose) that shoots 7.62mm, with an exchangeable upper receiver that you can fit a long-ass barrel w/ silencer to change it into a sniper rifle that is about as good as the Remington 700.
Anyone know if it's legal anywhere in the US to own automatic military-grade weapons? I want one of these bad boys.
You can buy m4's and m16's, they will most likely have a single shot receiver, but those can be fairly easily swapped out and swapped back. Alternatively im pretty sure you can get an automatic weapon permit, if you are willing to submit to a governmental anal probe of your entire life.
I wouldn't mind getting an anal probe of my entire life... Seeing as I plan on getting a CCW permit, which is already a minor anal probe, and I'm definitely a gun enthusiast (and I don't even own a real one yet) I doubt I'd mind. I definitely plan on getting a federal permit to own silencers (I know that you are able to do that).

I think you meant to say "which is mostly negated by the modern HANDGUN.

Uhhm, no.. That's what video games and movies would have you believe. Bows are huge, huge things are not stealthy.
Get a silenced pistol, it's just as good with less areas of fault and much more lethality.

That reminds me, i wanted to see the new Rambo movie, wonder when it comes out.
Arrows were usually fairly effective against most types of plate and sometimes chain armor if struck at the proper angles. Armor really wasnt usually thick enough to stop the pierce of an arrow, least it be so heavy that the wearer couldnt move at all under its weight. Sometimes it could deflect them being that it was rounded or angled properly though. Armor really was more use against slashing type weapons, and had limited effectiveness against bashing. Atleast thats been my understanding of it.
I know how big bows are, i have a longbow, and yeah its big, 64" unstrung. Only a 50lb draw on it though. Modern compounds can be drastically smaller, and much more powerful, but i enjoy the traditional look and feel of the long and recurve bows. Traditionally many war bows had a drastically higher draw weights, 90-120 was common. Gives em a hell of a lot more punch.
As for stealth im gonna have to still go with a bow. Its harder to sneak around without people knowing you are carrying one, but its about a million times quieter. Dont need a background check for a bow either, atleast not in this state. :P

Long bows are longer than compound bows!
